About Therapy With Yasmine

Who I Am

Hi there, I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m Yasmine, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, specializing in couple’s counseling. I absolutley LOVE working with couples and so I’ve focused years of additional training and research on helping couples connect again.

Who I See

I see couples from all backgrounds and with many different needs.

I like to use the word relationship therapist ( as opposed to marriage therapist) because I also see couples who are:

  • dating
  • engaged
  • expecting their first baby
  • considering divorce

I do spend a lot of my time with couples, but I also work with individual clients struggling with a variety of issues including new moms and people struggling with anxiety  (check out my prenatal/postpartum and anxiety sections if couples counseling isn’t what you’re here for).

What I Do

You probably already have an idea of who or what a marriage therapist is, and maybe that has turned you or your partner off to therapy in the past.  All therapists have their own style, background, and ways they approach therapy. Finding one that you click with is essential!

If you and your partner want a therapist who will support you both in your relationship goals, be honest in their feedback, be flexible based on your uniques needs, and be just as comfortable with laughing as they are with crying, I may be the right therapist for you.

Here are some of the couples I see on a regular basis:

  •  those that really just want a meaningful and happy relationship but feel stuck because they don’t know how to dig themselves out of an ever growing pit of hurt and anger.
  • are on the fence about whether they want to pursue the relationship they are in, or if calling it quits would work best for them.
  •  figure out what they want and learn how to go about doing it so they can work on healing both themselves and their relationship.

Why I Do It

Through my years of working with different couples and with my educational background, I absolutley believe that  happy and healthy relationships DO EXIST. I am passionate about the work I do and helping couples work towards building a solid, secure, and frankly amazing, relationship.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Information

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree at Monterey State where I graduated in 2007. I graduated with honors, and it was through my undergraduate studies that I cultivated a love for working with people.

My Master’s was done through the Sacramento State Counselor’s Education Department where I was able to learn about the intricacies of therapy through in person classes, workshops, LOTS of hands on training experience, and some intense thesis work. I graduated in 2011, and had already started working in the mental health field  by that time.

I am so grateful for my experiences at school, intern sites, and employment sites, as it gave me a solid foundation in working with people of many different backgrounds with various needs.

Along with other types of training, I am most proud of the research based relationship training I received through the Gottman Institute (if you don’t know about the Gottmans, you should. Their research on couples is a game changer www.gottman.com). Not only have I completed all levels of training, but I am currently working toward certification through the Institute.

I am licensed with the Board of Behavioral Science and you can check my license number #94847 out at http://www.bbs.ca.gov/quick_links/weblookup.shtml (This is always a good idea when you consider starting therapy with someone for the first time). I am also a member of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) which is the professional organization for LMFTS residing and practicing in California.
