Hi, my name is Yasmine and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (or LMFT) in Placerville, California. But you could also call me a relationship coach, referee, chaos sorter, or a translator for your relationship goals.
Even though the word “Marriage” is in the title, I also work with couples who are:
- expecting their first baby
- or going on their 15th year of marriage.
I do spend a lot of my time with couples, but I also work with individual clients struggling with a variety of issues including new moms and people struggling with anxiety (check out my prenatal/postpartum and anxiety sections if couples counseling isn’t what you’re here for).
You probably already have an idea of who or what a marriage therapist is, and maybe that has turned you or your partner off to therapy in the past. There are some interesting examples in movies and TV but 9.5 times out of 10 they get it so very wrong.
Basically, I help couples who
- really just want a meaningful and happy relationship but feel stuck because they don’t know how to dig themselves out of an ever growing pit of hurt and anger.
- are on the fence about whether they want to pursue the relationship they are in, or if calling it quits would work best for them.
- figure out what they want and learn how to go about doing it so they can work on healing both themselves and their relationship.
I know from personal and professional experience, along with specialized training (and lots and lots of books), that unlike Unicorns, happy and healthy relationships DO EXIST. I am passionate about working with people to help make their lives better. I am a believer in the resiliency of humans and our capacity for living a fulfilling and meaningful life.
- CSU Monterey Bay, Bachelor of Arts- Human Communication
- CSU Sacramento, Master of Science in Counseling
- Level One, Level Two and Level Three Training- The Gottman Institute
Here’s the nitty gritty of my background and how it has made me the therapist I am today.
As I mentioned above, I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Monterey (and if you couldn’t tell by this website I might just really love the ocean). I then went through the Master’s Program in Marriage and Family Therapy at Sacramento State University. I completed my 3,000 Intern hours at El Dorado County Mental Health working as a mental health clinician.
I am so grateful for my experiences both at the county and at both educational sites, as it gave me a solid foundation in working with people of many different backgrounds with various needs. It also helped me gain a clearer understanding of the areas that I had a passion for.
Along with other types of training, I am most proud of the research based relationship training I received through the Gottman Institute (if you don’t know about the Gottmans, you should. Their research on couples is a game changer www.gottman.com). Not only have I completed all levels of training, but I am currently working toward certification through the Institute.
I am licensed with the Board of Behavioral Science and you can check my license number #94847 out at http://www.bbs.ca.gov/quick_links/weblookup.shtml (This is always a good idea when you consider starting therapy with someone for the first time). I am also a member of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) which is the professional organization for LMFTS residing and practicing in California.
So that’s it in a nutshell.
If you have any questions about my education or experience feel free to ask.
